Shinto Temple - Providence, R.I.

This project was intended to teach us how to design in an urban context and deal with sloped sites. There were buildings on both sides of the site and it sloped downhill 35 feet from the front to back. I chose to dig the temple into the site in order to create a series of patios on which gardens and prayer spaces were created. Each of the prayer spaces are oriented so that the visitors look out to the Providence skyline while they pray.
